Bhutan, a small country between China and India, is known to the world as the land of happiness. But what many people don’t know is that, in the early 1990s, one-sixth of its population was forced to leave their homeland.
While our system is undoubtedly overburdened, across our region, I have seen the love, care and great courage of the couples and families who open their hearts and homes to vulnerable children in need of care.
So far this fiscal year, nearly 45,000 unaccompanied children have been apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border. Through Transitional Foster Care, children can be placed with temporary foster families until they are able to be reunited with family.
